In a world where luxury is often defined by a fleeting moment, the newly launched Mercedes-Maybach S680 V12 Edition is a testament to timeless elegance and enduring power. This isn’t just a car; it’s the final, breathtaking chapter for an icon. It’s the V12’s last dance, a powerful and poignant farewell that leaves a legacy of unmatched opulence.
The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is already pretty special, but the company is taking things to new heights with the V12 Edition. It’s an ultra-luxury flagship that embraces craftsmanship as well as solid 24-carat gold accents.
Drawing inspiration from classic Maybach Zeppelin models, the V12 Edition is based on the Mercedes‑Maybach S 680 and described as the “pinnacle of automotive excellence.” The exclusive sedan is distinguished by a two-tone exterior that combines obsidian black metallic with Manufaktur olive metallic.
The two hues are separated by a silver metallic pinstripe and Mercedes said the unique paint scheme can take up to ten working days to create, which is “twice as long as Maybach’s usual signature two-tone paintwork.”
The unique touches don’t end there as the model has forged olive metallic wheels and special C-pillar emblems, which sport a chrome Maybach logo as well as a golden 12 badge. The emblems honor the hood ornament from the Maybach Zeppelin DS 8, and Mercedes said the “24-carat gold medal ring is adorned with a delicate diamond engraving” as well as a 24-carat gold inlay with a V-shaped pattern.
An Exquisite Interior
The upscale styling continues inside with Manufaktur saddle brown Nappa leather that is paired with high-gloss brown burr walnut wood trim. The wood extends to the rim of the steering wheel, resulting in “hours of precision work.”
Elsewhere, there’s a diamond-quilted saddle brown roof liner, special embroidery, and a “1 of 50” badge on the center console. The rear center console is even more eye-catching as it features twelve golden circles as well as a special Maybach 12 emblem. Mercedes said the intricate inlay requires “up to seven working days of meticulous handcraftsmanship” to complete.
Buyers will also receive special silver-plated champagne flutes and a handcrafted key box. They’re joined by a fancy trunk mat with saddle brown edging that matches the interior. Other highlights include power rear doors, rear-axle steering, five screens, and an active suspension.
As the name suggests, the car is powered by a twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 engine producing 603 hp (450 kW / 612 PS) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission and a standard all-wheel drive system. This enables the 5,214 lb (2,365 kg) sedan to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.5 seconds, before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
Production will be limited to 50 units and deliveries will begin this fall. Mercedes didn’t mention pricing, but the V12 Edition will only be offered in “select markets.”
